I was at a Tupperware party the other night (yes, seriously, and it was so much fun!) and I was talking to one of my friends about how I had made a few Hanukkah cards, but hadn’t started putting them up on my blog yet, thinking it was still too far away. But she pointed out (Thanks Lisa!) that Hanukkah is less then 2 months away, and there was no need to wait to post them. Excellent point! So I decided to do a Hanukkah card for this week’s Saturday Sketch Challenge from Stamping 411.
This sketch lent itself very nicely to the new “Let There Be Light” single stamp found in the Holiday Mini Catalog. I love the fun whimsical look of the candles. See the Designer Series Paper on top? It didn’t start out like that. See below for more info on how I modified it.
Stamps: Let There Be Light
Ink: Night of Navy, Bashful Blue, Crushed Curry
Paper: Night of Navy, Bashful Blue, Crushed Curry, Whisper White, Crushed Curry Designer Patterns Series Paper, Patterns Pack Designer Series Paper (Hostess Level 1)
Other: Brayer
The top piece of Designer Series Paper is from the Patterns Pack that you can get free with as a Hostess Level 1 set. It comes with five colors included — Ruby Red, Mellow Moss, Sahara Sand, Really Rust, and Night of Navy. I used one of the Night of Navy patterns for this card. Here’s what it looked like fresh out of the pack:
But it was too white. It took away from the stamped image. So I pulled out my handy dandy brayer nd my Bashful Blue ink pad, and I brayed ink over the piece of Designer Series Paper. Et viola! A beautiful piece of Designer Series Paper that matches my card fabulously! Amazing, huh?
This is simple and beautiful! I think it is amazing! Great job with the DSP
Wow–love your coloring tips for the DSP; that was the first thing to catch my eye! Your color combo on this is so pleasing. . .
Great idea; brayering the DSP! Love it!
This card is stunning. The brayering over the bright white is a fabulous idea!!!! Now, your eye goes right to the menorah rather than the DSP.
What a WONDERFUL idea – LOVE IT! Oh, please, pretty please – keep the Hanukkah card ideas coming! I need SO many this year, and I’m stumped w/so few stamps available. Such a lovely job with this card.
Great challenge card! Fabulous colors. What a clever way to change up your DSP. I never would have thought of that! I’ll have to try it sometime.
What a wonderful card and thanks for that tip on coloring our DSP!! So going to try this one!! Thanks for playing along with us this week!!
Great work! The gold is striking but not overpowering.
I have this stamp as well. Nice to see it used in such a pretty way.
Blessings.
